Volke plays a big part in the development of a bodyshell, providing, among other things, strength calculations, in which the rigidity of the bodyshell can be determined.  A 'finished' automobile isn't necessary for these tests.  A model of the bodyshell is constructed on the computer monitor, supports and loads are then applied, and the calculations then carried out using the latest software.  Through the use of computer calculation in a very early phase of development, the test's limiting conditions can be changed quickly, and design modifications can be continually integrated into the model.  Also, early conclusions can be drawn regarding strength performance and appropriate changes made.
